Wow it has been one month since my last post. Sorry life has been keeping me very busy.
So last weekend and part of this weekend I have been working on an upgrade project for the Avalon Hill solo player game B-17 Queen of the Skies.
I have played 5 missions over the last month and I wanted to improve the visual aspect of the game. As you can see from the pictures below the air battle board is not the most appealing game board.
I took some time and made a new map that will allow me to use the new 3mm Miniatures that I painted up over the last two weekends to replace the old cardboard aircraft.
When combat would take place between the B-17 and the attacking German aircraft you place the cardboard aircraft on the battle board and it can be difficult to tell the altitude of the attacking aircraft.
So I created a new battle board.
Now to the aircraft.
I painted up 1 B-17:
Next up are 3 BF-110's
Then there are 8 FW-190's
And finally I painted up 8 Me-109G's
So in total I painted up 20 aircraft. That is not a bad amount of miniatures to paint up.
So here are a few pictures of how the game looks with the new battle board and the new aircraft. I have included a picture of how the battle would look on the old board too.
Here is a comparison of the cardboard aircraft and the new miniatures.
So what do you think?
Thanks for checking out my post!
That is really great. Your improved version looks far better, a both aesthetically and functionally.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Pete.
That looks great! Much better than the original version.
ReplyDeleteHoly smoke, Rattlesnake - they are amazing! I love how the scale of the minis work so much better than the original cards too. Your paint work is colourful, accurate and immersive; putting the mini's on stalks is cool too - gives the game a much needed 3 dimensional touch. You've rejuvenated the game and I don't doubt now that you'll be playing a lot more B-17 QOTS. Thanks for the inspiration, mate. Arcuspilot in Oz
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I've played many a game of B-17: Queen of the Skies, and this would make it even more fun.
ReplyDeleteI guess I need to buy some minis now...
Thank you all for the positive comments! It was a fun project and adds some bling to the game.
