Using a Board game to run a Miniature Wargame Campaign

Hi all,

Well after Fridays crazy Terriorist Attack I have been working on prepairing more Baccus 6mm Union Infantry to be painted up so we can play a few more games of Alter of Freedom. 

I am also working on setting up a campaign for the American Civil War and I am planning to use the Columbia Games board game, Bobby Lee as the engine that runs the capaing.

I took a picture of the game board so I can use it electronically.

Have any of you used a board game to run a campaign?

I hope to get some recomendations on how to run such a thing without killing the players with paperwork or myself...

Sharp Practice and more trees!

This week I received my copy of Sharp Practice! I plan to use the rules to make use of my 15mm Napoleonic troops as well as my French and Indian War miniatures.

I also plan to paint up some Swedish 28mm miniatures for the 1809-1809 Russian Finish War.

I did some research while at the Army Museum here in Stockholm to check out some examples of the two types of uniforms that would have been in use during the war.  It looks like the 1802 and 1807 uniform was in use during the war.

I have ordered some of the Perry Norwegian miniatures for the Swedes in the 1802 uniform. For troops in the 1807 uniforms I will use some plastic 28mm Austrians I have for the bodies and I have ordered British Marine heads to add to the Austrian bodies to make them look like the Swedes. We will see how they turn out.

I also made some more trees for the 6mm terrain that we need for Altar of Freedom. I have more trees so I will continue to work on more trees before making rivers.

Lost in the woods?

No! I am just very busy with work and preparing for the Summer here in Stockholm.  The weather has been very good these last few days and me and Cathrine will be heading West to the family Summer home to open it up for the season. We are hoping that the weather will stay as nice as it has been since I have been working.

Last week I finished up the last of my 6mm buildings and a bridge for the upcoming Altar of Freedom games at the club.

I have also been working on tress for 6mm games.  I am using foam board for the bases as they are easy to cut to the shapes I want and they are light weight.  Also I use a nail to punch holes randomly on the foam board and then glue the trees into the holes.  It works really well.

I have a few hundred more to base before I am done. I hope to get these done soon.

The Confederate Army is complete!!

Sorry for the long delay in posting my painting activities but life has been busy and with the good weather time is spent out in the sun while it is here!

So over the last two weeks I have completed the two General stands that I needed to complete the Confederate Order of Battle for the Battle of First Manassas based on the scenario book from Altar of Freedom.  I also managed to paint up another house for the game and this great little stone fence, which can be used for the Battle of Fredricksburg.  It is modular so I can line up the 4 straight parts and it will provide cover for four stands of Infantry. That is a whole division worth of solders!!

I also took the time to take a picture of the whole army with the names of each brigade annotated.

Well next is to finish the buildings and build more trees for the terrain.  I am shooting for a game some time in May.

Gibraltar of the West, 1863 Viskburg Campaign book released

Happy Friday to all of you!!

Yesterday the guys over at Altar of Freedom released there first Campaign book.  It looks great!

I have looked through it briefly and they have already updated the random events cards since the release yesterday.

They have also provided an AAR of one of the campaigns they ran at there local club.

American Civil War Confederates in 6mm. The Infantry is done!!!

Well it has been a long week, yes it is only Wednesday.

Last night I finally finished up the last of the 6mm Confederate Infantry that I will need to start playing Altar of Freedom and the 1st battle of Bull Run. 

I added some skirmishers to the infantry ranks on these 4 Brigades of Infantry. I also created a stand of Infantry in column to add some flavor to the Army.  I have plans to do a Union stand with the infantry in Square formation, but that is later!

So please enjoy the pictures of the Rebel Infantry.  All I have to do is paint up a brigade of Cavalry, two General officer stands, and a few more Head Quarters stands.  Then it is on to the 6mm buildings!

Black Powder Rules: The Battle of Fort Donelson

Hi all!

Today our little wargaming club had played a game of Black Powder and we fought part of the Battle of Fort Donelson.

We had six people at the club involved in the game, two played the Union and three played the Confederate forces.  We had a good game.

The Union won this battle and it was very enjoyable.

I will not go into details as I am sure a few of the other club members will have blog posts with more details.  I will add links to there blog posts once they become available.
