January 2022 paint table update

 Hi all,

So when I am not posting here on the Blog I am posting pictures on Twitter, which is better than posting them on Facebook, I think.

 

 One of the things I have been doing is posting pictures of my Lunch Break painting sessions I did two weeks ago since I am back working from home because of the COVID situation here in Stockholm.

 I worked on painting some of the 3mm Vietnam War miniatures I got recently. I have tanks and also infantry with additional helicopters and aircraft.

 

Here are the UH-1's I painted up so far. I just need to put on the varnish and then add the rotor blades. 

I also did a little prep work to start painting up some F-104 star fighters, again for the Vietnam War.

I also got some 1/6000 scale ships to try to do some battle related to a what if 1930's War between the US and Japan using the War Plan Orange plan. I also got in some 3mm Tumbling Dice interwar aircraft to experiment with to see how they match up with the 1/6000 scale ships. I will post more pictures as I paint up more miniatures.

Bombing mission using "Thud Ridge" rules with my 3mm miniatures.

 Hi all,

I took some time to start learning the "Thud Ridge" rules by using some 3mm WW2 tanks for a ground target for two JA-37 Viggens. This is just a learning game but it helped me to think about how to run some games I want to run at the club once we are able to get back to face to face gaming.

 

 

 

The rules plays pretty good, I just need to play a few more times. I will add some extra ground support units in the next game. I plan to add some AAA guns and place the tanks in a defensive position with the AAA providing support.

Of the two Viggens only one hit its target. the other missed. So that is about a 50% hit rate. Hopefully that will improve over time. Pictured in the above picture is a movement template that I made using a 3mm thick MDF base I had. I made them two sided so it is easy to use depending which way you want to turn. 

So after dropping there bombs the two viggens flew back to there base to rearm and get some help from the rest of the squadron. More games in the coming week to add the AAA and also some enemy air power.

3mm JA-37 Viggen

 Good Easter afternoon all!

On Thursday I started to paint up a flight (4 aircraft) of JA-37 Viggens in 3mm that I have had sitting around for a while. I want these painted up so I can play some scenarios for a what if airbattle over the Baltic against the Soviets in the 1980's. 

I have placed an order to get in some Soviet aircraft from the period so I will paint them up as I get them in the mail.

Still Alive

Hello everyone!

I must apologize for not updating my blog earlier but tragedy has struck very close to my heart. My wife, who is loved by me very much, has been diagnosed with Cancer. The treatment has started and it is a difficult thing for her and for me. I am focusing as much time as I can to being with my wife and spending time with her. She should be OK sometime in the summer but I am praying that all goes well for her and with the treatment, surgery and recovery.

I have done some minor painting:

Here is a 28mm Pz 38T I painted for a project that is on hold.

I also painted up some 3mm aircraft to add some coolness to my copy of Night fighter Ace (board game).

I plan to work on writing a set of air combat rules focused around 1940, I have to see if I can write something that can be used for the early part of the war.

Get to the Chopper!!

Hi again,

Continuing on my Cold War kick I decided to paint up some of my 3mm Helicopters that I have had sitting around for a year or so.

I painted up two Mi-24 Hind and two Mi-8 Hip helicopters.

I think they came out pretty good. I also added the rooter blades. The miniature come with stickers that are a complete circle, i decided to cut out the clear parts to make them look like they are in motion.

Soviet 3mm aircraft for air combat games

Hi everyone!

Well I did some painting over the last few days. I set a goal of painting up some Soviet aircraft that I will use in some games of CY-6 and Bag the Hun.  I have played CY-6 for a long time and I like the rules but I have been asked if I have played Bag the Hun since I now live on this side of the Atlantic. I have not played Bag the Hun so I have picked up a the rules and I will run a few games at the club to see how they play.

Here are some SB-2 bombers and some I-16 fighters in 3mm scale painted for the Winter War.

WW2 3mm Tanks for Spearhead!

Hi everyone.

I am currently reading a new set of rules they are Spearhead. They will allow me to play large scale battles when I am in the mood for some big battles.

I have painted up some tanks to get me started. The rules are made for 6mm miniatures to be based on a 1 1/4 inch base so I decided to put three tanks on the same size base but in 3mm scale. I hope they will look good on the battlefield.

I have been pretty busy with work but I am still taking time to paint. I have more 3mm Napoleonic ready to paint up but first I will take a little vacation to Cyprus to get some sun and relax for a week.
