Battle on the Border 1809

 Hi all,

After my last post about finishing the 28mm Bavarian's, I took them out for a little battle with the Austrian Jagars. I am using Songs of Drums and Shakos rules for my skirmish battles.

I will be running a game at our local gaming convention and I need to run a bunch of solo games to get use to the rules and make sure I have a good command of how the game is played so the people playing will not have to learn the rules. My goal is to have them use a QRS and be able to have a fast and fun skirmish game.

In this scenario I had the Bavarians partly deployed on board around the house that sits along the boarder of the Austrian Hungarian Empire and the Bavarian lands. The Jagars have to move on to the map and try to push the Bavarians off the board or capture and hole the building until the line troops arrive.

The battle as it progresses, the Bavarians are pushing in more troops than the Austrians can deploy.

The first death was on the Austrian side of the battle!

The battle was a back and fort fight with the Austrians using the cover of the woods and hills to move around the Bavarians. The Bavarians suffered some causalities and there moral was starting to waver but the were able to continue the fight.

The Austrians were able to get into the flank of the Bavarians and with the loss of an NCO on the Bavarians side the officer had to get a lot closer to the troops to keep them motivated and in the fight.

In the end the Austrian Jagar NCO was able to get a close shot on the Bavarian officer and was able to kill him. This triggered a moral check on the rest of the Bavarian forces and they all decided it was a good idea to head back home and fight another day.

The Austrian Jagars won the battle but it was a close call. Casualties were about equal on each side but the death of the Bavarian office was the straw the broke the camels back.

It was a fun game and I will be running one game per weekend in April to nail down the rules.

Thank you for reading this!
